A Sharp Practice version of the old Don Featherstone classic ACW game.
This is our terrain interpretation for a 6' x 4' game
Here's the Don's original map
First card out was the Federal cavalry colonel so they deploy right of the creek
Then the Confederate General, who sends cavalry up the road, one infantry brigade towards the village and the gun arrives on the road
The Federal waste no time and head for the village as quick as they can
In the distance, a Federal infantry brigade can be seen wading through the creek
The Confederate cavalry speed up the road and spy enemy infantry also heading for the bridge
The Federal cavalry trot around the back of the church
The Confederate cavalry colonel orders a charge
The Federal cavalry dismount and move up church hill
The Yanks get off a volley as the Rebel cavalry charge them
Only one man has been hit so the cavalry slash away
One group of infantry is smashed and the other flees back down the road
Leaving their dead colonel behind
A second brigade passes them, heading for the ridge
The first Confederate brigade moves on towards Plattville in line
Lets get up this ridge, men !
The Federal cavalry use church hill and beside a house as firing positions
The rebel cavalry have swung left and using the river bank, unbeknown to the Federal infantry climbing the ridge
Down at Plattville village, the Federal infantry brigade which has waded through the water arrives as the cavalry commander organises his men
The cavalry firepower has been devastating so far. The Confederate gun crew were killed before they could get into action and the lead Confederate infantry also took casualties. We can now see a second Confederate infantry brigade cresting the ridge beside the village as the first brigade charges past the nearest cottage
Back over the river, the Confederate cavalry has crossed the ridge and surprised the limbered enemy artillery who run for their lives
The Federal Zoaves have chased the 2nd Confederate infantry off the ridge but are now attacked by one group of the 1st brigade (the others are in the cottage to escape the deadly cavalry carbines)
Having charged the fleeing Federal artillerymen again, the Confederate cavalry see their colonel killed in action and the cavalry are now rudderless, like the enemy infantry near them
The fight for the village continues - a Stars and Stripes is still waving bravely on the ridge
but the Confederate charge has broken the Zoaves who flee leaving their dead
Some of the Federal cavalry have remounted, intending to charge the Rebels on the ridge but before they can, the Rebels have hit the remaining Federal infantry in the flank, finishing off that brigade and the Federal morale
The Federals will have to leave Plattville to the Confederates this time
Great little game - Plattville still stands the test of time !
