INDEXIT : A Sharp Practice game

The struggle for Indian Independence is very much alive (despite a long absence from Norseygamer) and it comes to a head here on the Great Trunk Road.

British and Mutineer forces meet head on and there can only be one winner - whose morale will be the better at the end of the day ?

British forces will enter just to the right of the walled villa, Mutineers from left of the hilly ground bottom right.

Two groups of Loyal Sepoys enter first

A nasty surprise for the British though, the Indians have got an artillery piece

Two groups of Badmashes appear next, heading for the small farm house

and sweeping past them in a hurry, the Indian leader with three groups of Sepoys

The British send some rifle armed loyal skirmishers towards the hills

and a well disciplined force of British infantry, lead by the British commander and a bugler and sergeant

the rebellious Sepoys head for the cultivated field and the villa beyond

and rebel skirmishers line the roof of the farmhouse, quickly concentrating fire on the enemy riflemen

British riflemen are now spotted on the roof of the villa

The Mutineer skirmishers have picked off three enemy riflemen - including their officer !

The British rifles aim at the enemy on the farmhouse roof

The Indian gunners continue on their way

The British infantry advance purposefully

and then redeploy into a firing line

The Indian gun unlimbers and opens fire on the British Sepoys

as more Indian skirmish troops appear to add their fire against the enemy trying to gain the high ground

The British line swings round so as to concentrate fire on the farmhouse and Sepoys beyond

The line of redcoats looks quite intimidating !

The gun keeps up the fire on the enemy Sepoys

Sensing an opportunity, the Rebel commander sends the Badmashes off towards the British flank

The way is clear as the remaining British Indian skirmishers have fled

The concentrated British fire from the villa rooftop and the firing line is ripping into the Indian Sepoys - and a leader figure has been killed. The Commander tries to rally his men in the face of all of this

He has also sent Wallahs with "Big Choppers" to join the intended attack on the British left flank

The British are now in danger

but the British commander spots the problem and pulls back his firing line to protect the flank

British fire now switches to the Badmashes

and they are forced back with shock and casualties but the "Big Chopper" unit beside the farm house is still in good shape

A sudden thick pall of smoke descends across the front of the British firing line and through this the "Big Choppers" lead by the Indian commander charge into contact

their aggressive attack wipes out one end of the British line and the British CO and supporting group run back to their start line

One British group remains though and the British commander uses his bugler to order them to charge the enemy

but this is a disaster and these British troops perish as well. Just a few moments ago, the British position looked solid and the enemy were reeling but now all has changed.

A last desperate attempt to change their fortunes - the British Rifles emerge from the villa grounds intending to charge the enemy gun in the flank

The British Sepoys have taken quite a pasting from that gun and they are falling back too

The Rifles close in

The gun is still busy firing across at the Sepoys

The Badmashes charge the few remaining British infantry, full of confidence

They hit them

but the British still have some fight left in them and they throw back the Indians

However, just in time, the Indian gun commander spies the enemy Riflemen, swings the gun around and hits them with his one remaining canister charge

Thats enough - the Rifles are broken and the British morale is now completely gone

The Indian troops dance with joy around their victorious commander

So Indian Independence still remains a possibility !!!
