Fort St.Elmo, Malta

During our recent Mediterranean cruise, I managed to convince my wife and friends to visit Fort St.Elmo, which is the Maltese national military museum.

And it's well worth a visit !

The entrance is close to the "Malta Experience" which you have to approach via underground tunnels.

The fort appears to have undergone extensive refurbishment and is well furnished with displays and objects of interest.

This looks like a WWII look out point

I will let the pictures do the talking ...

What great display of the big guns !

So, Sir Ralph Abercrombie is buried inside this wall !

A new knight has just been recruited !

One of the famous aerial defenders of the islands during WWII, totally outnumbered by the German & Italian air fleets but still here to tell the tale !

Looks like the budget has runout though - these barracks are quite dilapidated and off-limits.

All in all, a good place to spend some time in Valetta - the whole town is alive with history and historic buildings & fortifications.

Our one day ashore here was never going to be enough !
