The Gun Powder Works (continued)

Well the battle has continued this week ...

 

Defenders take up their positions.

 

Whilst the Boleynian hordes advance relentlessly.

 

 

Cavalry pour across the fields.

 

As Light Infantry move into the woods.

 

The Boleynian guns set up on the hilltop.

 

As their opposite numbers deploy behind a wall in the wheat fields.

 

The Boleyn Infantry step forward with confidence.

 

As Hussars clash on the left.

 

Light infantry trade fire in the woods on the right.

 

The cavalry melee extends to 2 regiments a side.

 

 The Defenders come off worse in the woods.

 

 

And the Boleyn Foot prepare to fire.

 

The defending cavalry have to retire for 2 moves.

 

Now the Boleynian Heavy Cavalry attack.

 

 Boleynian Hussars come forwards to replace those retiring.

 

The Boleyn retire from losses.

 

 

 

Their cavalry try to attack the infantry lines but receive fire from the woods and the lines of foot. 

The Red Pandours move towards the enemy guns as the enemy Light Foot retreat.

 

Heavy cavalry clash on the right.

 

The Boleynians pursue the remnants as the Horse Grenadiers look on in horror.

Infantry trade fire in the centre.

 

And the Boleyn white coats come off worse !

 

The Horse Grenadiers come forwards to melee.

 

The Red Pandours attack the guns but fall below 50% in the process so have to retreat.

 

Whilst the rallied Hussars chase off the Boleyn Hussars.

 

At the end of the day, with their cavalry blown and two regiments of infantry defeated in the centre, the Boleynians call off the attack - but it was close !

 

The Gun Powder Works !

 

The Horse Grenadiers guard the approach to the Gun Powder Works.

 

 

And not a moment too soon, as a force of Boleynians

has been sent to capture it for Prince Gold of East Endia. 

 

 

Here their Light Cavalry pick their way through rough ground.

 

Whilst their main force marches across the plain.

The Mindenian White Coats to the fore.

And Grenze Light Troops advance on their right.

 

Heavy Cavalry flank the infantry.

 

 

In defence of the Gun Powder Works comes a light unit of Frei Korps & Hussars

 

And Two Blue Coated Regiments of Infantry.

Cuirassiers.

 

And an Artillery Battery in the fields with more light troops in the woods beyond.

 

Which side will prevail ? .... More to follow soon !

Lace Wars using Charles Grant's "The Wargame" Rules.

 

Today, I had the pleasure of a visit by Iain Burt, "Essex Boy" on the WD3 Forum, for a Lace Wars battle and he brought along his famous Boleyn Regiment of Spencer Smith Miniatures together with other units in his collection.

 

We opted to play using the latest version of "The Wargame" by Brigadier Charles Grant with BIG regiments.

 

Here are the Boleyn Boys lined up for action.

His Light Troops to the fore.

 

Cavalry hover in support. 

 

These Cuirassiers are moving forwards to take on my Horse Grenadiers. 

 

Whilst his Hussars are over on the left. 

 

Here is my army arrayed for battle.

 

The Artillery were late and stuck behind the cavalry. 

My Heavy and Light Cavalry advance on my right.

Iain got his guns deployed first.

 

His infantry stand firm in the centre. 

Officers encourage his Light Troops.

The cavalry are commited on his right.

Whilst mine move forward on my right as one battery is sent over to support the left.

My Grenadiers de France & Irish Infantry advance in the centre.

And my Light Troops push on.

 

The head of my Heavy Cavalry appears over on the right. 

Cavalry action is imminent.

My Irish boys crash into Iain's infantry despite taking fire earlier and beat them ! 

 

Whilst my Horse Grenadiers defeat his cavalry on my left. 

 

With two units of cavalry in retreat and his infantry broken in the middle, it was all up for the Boleyn Army and a general retreat ordered.

 

A most enjoyable day's gaming !

Landguard Fort, Felixstowe.

 

I found myself in Felixstowe on business yesterday and decided to visit the above before I departed this morning.

 

I had no idea that the Dutch had launched an attack here back in 1667 and actually landed troops to attack the fort - a wargaming scenario is brewing in my head !

A fort has existed here for over 420 years with many additions and alterations right up to the 1950s.

Reproduction of a 12.5 inch RML gun.  The real thing would have weighed 38 tons !

 

Unfortunately, this was the only big gun to be seen.

 

A spectacular location, nevertheless.

Desperado Dan Comes a Cropper !

 

Dan's Posse enter town.

Most folks are staying indoors.

This fella could be a problem.

The Sheriff wants to know Dan's business ?

Dan's men "drop" a Deputy in reply.

 

All hell breaks loose. Here 2 baddies have ganged up on a Deputy.  At the end of the day though, Law & Order prevailed and Dan had to hoof it.

 

This was all fought in 15mm as the sun went down !

 

 

Deadman's Gulch Update.

 

I went to Essex Warriors' Open Day at Writtle yesterday, the last day of September, and it was sunny and warm here in Essex !

 

Had a look at the various games going on and the Bring & Buy is always worth rummaging through. But, my luck was with one of the small number of traders that were present - I spied a box containing 5 second hand resin & painted Wild West buildings that he was disposing of for the princely sum of £10 !  They were swiftly taken and with a little bit of TLC, restored last night ...

 

 

 

And this is the result !  Glued back together, some paint touched up and new signs added, they will definitely fit in with my other Deadman's Gulch buildings.

 

This little town is growing rapidly.  Just as well, as Steve Clarke and I have now commenced our Legends of the Wild West campaign yesterday aftrenoon, with his Lawmen giving my Desperado and his Toughs a good licking.  I'm a man down already and with little in the way of Loot to spend.

 

Desperado Dan is planning a re-match once he has finished licking his wounds ...
